Khadija F. Sayyid, of Bristow, was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Camaro when she struck the troop car that was in the shoulder of Route 66 near mile marker 50 around 4 p.m. in Fairfax County Monday, May 15, VSP said.
The trooper, who was walking back to his vehicle after a traffic stop for speeding, was struck by the vehicle on impact and launched into the right, eastbound lane of travel. The SUV also struck the rear of the pickup truck stopped for speeding.
The trooper was able to recover quickly enough and get out of the travel lane before being struck by oncoming traffic.
Sayyid was treated and released from Fairfax Inova Hospital. She was wearing a seatbelt.
The trooper was also treated and released from Fairfax Inova Hospital. The state police SUV was stopped on the right shoulder and had its emergency lights flashing at the time it was struck.
Sayyid has been charged with reckless driving.
